May 23, 1944 - June 17, 2024

In loving memory ~

We are saddened to announce that Raymond Wayne Pedersen of Rimbey, Alberta passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the age of 80 years.

Raymond was born in Turner Valley, Alberta on May 23, 1944. He was one of six children born to Christen Skak and Violet (née Spragg) Pedersen. Following his schooling, Raymond embarked on the rodeo world, riding Brahman bulls and saddle broncs. He rode all over western Canada, including at the Calgary Stampede. Raymond then ventured into the oil patch, where he worked for 25 years as a derrick hand on oil rigs and was a vital part of the drilling team. His work took him all over the Arctic and south to the Gulf along the west coast of the United States near Los Angeles. To his mother's delight, Raymond consistently sent her countless postcards depicting his whereabouts. Raymond eventually settled into a two-bedroom trailer on a farm south of Rimbey, where he happily resided over the past 25 years. He loved cattle and grain farming, and enjoyed the outdoors. The coffee shops and the Grand Hotel were Raymond's favourite Rimbey locations to visit, as he enjoyed any opportunity for a good chat with friends whenever he came into town.

Raymond will be lovingly remembered by his two remaining siblings, a sister Ann Marie Yager of Toronto, Ontario; and a brother Skak Rudolf Pedersen of Victoria, British Columbia; as well as four nieces and seven nephews; and many good friends and neighbours. Raymond was predeceased by his father Christen Skak in 1982; his mother Violet in 2007; along with three brothers Kent, Gary, and Paul.

With respect for Raymond's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. He will be laid to rest in the Columbarium at the West Haven Cemetery, Rimbey. Raymond had a unique and comforting way of saying his goodbyes whenever he parted ways with friends and family; always simply stating, "I'll see you down the road a piece." Safe travels, Raymond.

If desired, memorial donations in his memory may be made directly to the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre, c/o the Rimbey Hospital Legacy Committee, Box 440, Rimbey, Alberta T0C 2J0 (www.rimbeyhospitallegacycommittee.com).
