Rimbey & Area Love My Garden Tour is coming up July 20.

The 5th Annual Rimbey & Area Love My Garden Tour will be taking place July 20, inviting residents to enjoy a peaceful day touring the beautiful gardens of six residents located in and around Rimbey.

The tour will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. rain or shine.

"This open house walkabout tour is not a competition, but just like-minded green thumbs sharing their passion," said Lorraine Morris, founder of the tour.

Residents will get to see a variety of gardens that include trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, garden decor, water features and sustainability in growing your own food on the tour.

The garden tour can play a role in alleviating social isolation and loneliness for seniors.

"So, this is a way of people coming together," said Morris.

Some of the benefits of digging in the dirt are increased exercise, improved diet from homegrown vegetables and saving money on the cost of groceries. It also provides time in nature, benefitting both physical and mental health and reducing stress. Gardening can also provide social connections in bringing people together, helping to curb depression and anxiety.

"There is no cost to the public, no food or drinks are offered, they use their own transportation. Basically, it's just come and go as you please," said Morris.
