Rider of the Month began September 2023 with, "an apprehensive hope that drivers would jump on board the positivity bus and nominate a rider each month for the positive things they are doing," said Tammy Freerksen, administrative assistant with Wolf Creek Public Schools.
"It has been an amazing journey to get to where we are today," she said, adding, "We are seeing the drivers really watching for kids that have lent a helping hand, are at the bus stop on time, are bus leaders in practice drills and numerous other positive actions; and those riders are being rewarded."
This year they sent out 302 rider packages, with Rimbey Lions Club sponsoring the key tags and chains for Wolf Creek School Division, along with certificates from local merchants, to be included for the Rimbey and Bluffton area nominations.
The City of Lacombe – Aquatic Center and Blackfalds McDonalds also stepped up to supply vouchers that were included in packages for the Lacombe, Blackfalds, Crestomere, Alix and Eckville area Riders of the Month.
